2027 Division Alignment
2027 Division Alignment
Thank you to all of our clubs for your patience as we worked through the challenge of setting the schedule. Our division directors worked hard to find the best possible options to present to the board for a vote. We considered multiple factors, including:
-
Club feedback (emails, phone calls, and live meetings…thanks to all that participated)
-
Geography/travel time
-
Recent performance history
-
Forfeit history
-
Number of squads
We do not have any information on the open division policy from the Senior Council, but we are looking for clarification. The structure for that would be similar to what is outlined for D4 (below) in regards to match scheduling. Expect more details

We are also migrating to a process whereby all matches (matrix/friendly/other) must be in RX to be compliant with liability coverage. Referees will get assigned, notified, and paid via RX. There will be a partial upfront club fee during registration with the remainder invoiced at the end of the fall and spring seasons. You will not be required to call the ref by Wednesday (automated via RX), nor have your treasurer show up with cash/venmo/check options to pay the ref on-site. Referee travel fees will be auto-calculated based upon mileage, and pooled across the union. A club shouldn’t pay more because a ref from far away was assigned. Detailed information on this process is coming in July.

Atlanta will not play in the CGRU D2 Championship, the next two qualifying clubs will play for the CGRU D2 Championship and regional representation.
Excluding AOW, all of the other clubs have played each other during the 2026 season and were at the top of standings.

Comments
Single Table, 8 matches H/A alternating year, Fall heavy schedule 6/2 split. Mar/Apr playoffs.
Charlotte is the only B-side, and will have existing eligibility rules applied
The D3 spring season is shortened with the addition of the play-in game versus Georgia, forcing the CGRU final/semi to be played earlier. The location of the play-in will most likely be at the CGRU championships
Men D4
Charleston Blockade
Charlotte Blues
Charlotte Royals
Columbia Rhinos B
Gaston Gargoyles
Johnson City
Raleigh Redhawks
Comments
This is a social division where teams will schedule their own matches (Our 2 IGR teams have been doing this for a few years). To be compliant and to get a referee assigned, all matches must be communicated to the division director ahead of time. Further details coming.
Charlotte Blues and Columbia are B-side, and will have existing eligibility rules applied.

Promotion Relegation:
At end of season, the lowest 2 clubs in points will be relegated from D2 to D3.
The 2 clubs in the championship match for D3 will be promoted to D2.
D4 to D3 promotion will be on an application process.
Teams may be relegated to D4 at the discretion of the board (presumably because of forfeits/lack of numbers).
